It is when building or renovating/refurbishing an industrial warehouse or production plant, where the intelligent skins can play out all their strength for the building owners. Given their light weight the timber frames rarely encounter a static problem. The intelligent skin wraps new and existing buildings of any kind to form the basis for an energy positive or passive building.

Even without energy positive measures (solar panels, use of geothermal heat from underneath the structure, cooling wells or shafts , etc. ..) the management of heating and cooling extremely large air masses can become (if designed from scratch…) very inexpensive.

And even before quantifying these cost benefits one has to be aware that square foot prices of setting up a passive or energy positive  structure are absolutely competitive with conventional building construction (if measured in cost per cubic meter of interior space…).

Hence even in a pure industrial application (work sheds, laboratories, warehouses, production plants, etc…) the intelligent skin literally “pays for itself” given the absence of energy cost in running the building from a heating or cooling perspective.
